Today marks the first Christmas my family will be without my niece Jennifer Briggs who along with fellow Guthrie Junior High teacher Heather Wilson were killed in an automobile wreck in late October. It will be a tough day for us, but when I think about Jennifer I cant help but think about owls, art and the Beatles. She loved art and shared that passion with my mom. She loved owls and I dont know why. And she really loved the Beatles and their music. Her bedroom in Stillwater is decorated with both decorative owls and Beatles memorabilia. Jennifer was also passionate about reading and helping others become better readers and students. I dont know why God took her, but I do know she made a lasting and positive impression on her family, friends, students and society. And, now a scholarship fund has been set up in her name for students who want to become teachers. I know this would make her happy because out of this tragedy a new generation of teachers will come and carry on her mission of educating students to excel both in and out of the classroom!
