Today marks the start of the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) Get Smart About Antibiotics Week, which helps raise awareness of proper use of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance. Over the past decade the prevalence of drug-resistant bacteria, or superbugs, has dramatically increased. If we dont act now the problem will only get worse. Thats why Congressman Danny K. Davis and I introduced the Developing an Innovative Strategy for Antimicrobial Resistant Microorganisms (DISARM Act). This bipartisan legislation takes concrete steps to get companies back in the market to develop next generation antibiotics capable of treating superbugs and saving lives.
