Today, media is inescapable. We grow up hearing the best gift we can give ourselves is cosmetic surgery, a crash diet, or the latest procedure to be the best, smallest, tightest, firmest we can be. Do it for YOU! and What will you gain when you lose? is the empowering message. Its all about women taking up less space and focusing our energy on shrinking away. Friends, during this season of giving, give your body and you body image the best gift of all: Ditch the weight loss resolutions. Hide your dang scale. While profit-driven media would have us believe we are parts to be ogled, judged, and constantly in need of repair with the latest products and procedures, those messages rake in billions for companies and get us nowhere closer to health or happiness. And because of these faux empowerment ideals, our health goals often reflect self-objectifying views that rarely get us to real health and happiness and don’t last too long (ex: “Fit into my jeans from 2008″ or “Lose 20 lbs.”). Have you ever reached one of those goals and then realized you still weren’t happy with what you saw? It’s because the objectifying goals we set for ourselves using arbitrary numbers are NOT the key to health and happiness. Here are 15 empowering, achievable goals, and we’d LOVE for you to make a fresh start with these resolutions as your guide. What will you choose to work on this holiday season?
