Today, my Nana took her last breath in her sick body and in an instant, took her next breath in a perfect body in Heaven. Margaret Shelley Gover Thurmond was one of the most wonderful people who ever graced the presence of this earth. Until today, she was in my world during my every heartbeat. I have experienced every part of life with her as a part of it. As a little girl, she held me safe and loved me daily, yet taught me discipline and instilled me with manners...napkin in the lap, please, thank you and so on. As a teenager, she encouraged and applauded my every move. She was one of my biggest fans. As a college student, she watched over me and remembered me often with weekly notes and little cash surprises in UC PO Box 57 because she knew every college student was broke by mid-week. As a bride, she sent me off with lessons of the real world and shared in my happiness. Dhe loved Wayne as another grand. She loved Him because I did. She became his Nana too. As a young mother, she stood beside me and allowed me to step back in awe as I witnessed her love my children because she had first loved me and they were mine, so they became hers. I realized through the years she was Nana to everyone. Every child I knew called her by Nana. They claimed her too and that was fine for me to share but ultimately I knew they may share her but at the end of the day she was mine. 10 years ago tomorrow my Granddaddy took his trip to Heaven. Tomorrow, God will allow her to celebrate his decade with Nana. Once again they will share their days together. No more separation. Until we meet again, Nana. Love, Your first Granddaughter
