Today my Uncle Jorge passed away. He was truly an angel on earth as he is, no doubt, in Heaven. As I pondered what I might say to him before he passed, (we knew he was already not doing well last night), I realized that he would have comforted me, as well as, the rest of the family instead. I wrote this poem today thinking of the words he would share. The gorgeous snowflakes outside made for some inspiration. Im not by any means a poet, so Ill apologize to anyone in advance that is. This will not be the best work that you see in your lifetime by a long shot. In any case, Im sharing because it makes me feel better to let everyone know that he was an amazing man. David Cavazos-My cousin, please accept this as my gift to you, your brother and your Mom. On bended knee, with my head hung low, I humbly looked down at the field below. A beautiful snow fell swiftly, a coating already on the grass, when I looked at myself and thought, at last,.... No longer am I sick, No longer struggling to breathe, The path in front of me, signals my leave. A light burning bright, a soul glowing strong, I am alive with my Father, who has brought me home, to eat at his table, to revel in the sense, what I feel is unreal, I am whole again at last. I am loved beyond measure, and though we are apart, I will wait for you my darlings, with a warmth in my heart. May the snowflakes remind you, or the rain as it falls, You are never alone, there are angels through it all, sent to support you and hold you close you see, Til the day we are together again, together for eternity. Enjoy the journey my sweet uncle. I love you and will miss you terribly.
