Today my appreciation goes to Eric Altmann. Many things and the first one coming to my mind...you never cease to surprise me. Pleasantly :-) You are a hard core banker, a no non sense person and you were one of the first to write in this little appreciation group Ive started. You gave your appreciation...Which starts to unfold your complexity...and there is much more. We met in 1996 (even before I met my husband!) at that famous Credit Committee I or II...and I also remember how open you have been to us, the foreigners in Amsterdam. When I was asking funny questions such as ...interesting case study. Is this Albert Hein a real company?! And you took the time to tell me stories and convey interesting facts about the company. I was impressed. Smart and kind. No ego. Also, you told me about your beautiful wife. It was fascinating for me to hear about an inter cultural marriage and how welcomed she, a Spanish woman, was feeling in Amsterdam. And this without knowing that Ill be in the same position few years down the road...moving to Amsterdam. In any case, I was thinking ..what a beautiful couple this is and what a lucky woman she is, with a man that cares so much about her and her wellbeing in the Netherlands. Years have passed and we have grown as professionals and individuals. Our families have grown. We live on different continents, geographically so to speak... I have always admired your professional success, knowing the tough environment of investment banking you have been for years. But your sense of humor seems intact. Your kindness also. And your curiosity. And your openness. You show me that even successful bankers, left brain individuals have a big heart, and can connect with people from a place of openness. Stay kind Eric. As we know you are already super smart, successful and dont have to prove yourself:-)
