Today my awesome wife has 19 years out of the darkness. When I think of what I went through and endured, it pales in the presence of what her truth was before she got here. I mean, yeah, they sent me away for years and years, but they cooked me food, did my laundry, kept me warm and the struggles I got into in there I chose. My wife has endured much at the hands of men and countless situations that were out of her control. She wandered by herself in a world full of predators and made countless decisions based solely on survival. She had children to worry about who had major health issues early on, she suffered the anguish of separation from them and when she first got here she had her daughters with her in case struggling with the concept of recovery wasnt enough. She suffered a major crisis in the very rooms she was supposed to trust others in. But through all of that, she never let go of recovery, never let go of her kids, in spite of what other men had been in her life, she risked love again. She reunited with her son through perseverance and staying clean above all else. She climbed from the bottom of her career to the top of each agency she has worked for and went back to school and got her Masters Degree. She delivered a consistent message to her children that education and love were the most important things they should focus on, and her kids did get that message...all 3 of them. I think you could say that I married my true hero.
