Today my dear friend Djie Bie (Gerta Bijloo) would be 60 years old if she hadnt died from lung cancer about a year ago. Djie lived in the Netherlands and we became friends through the iVillage womens online community. Although we never met in person, I bonded more quickly and closely with her than with most people Ive known in real life. In recent years wed fallen out of touch for various reasons, some of them technology related, but the last I heard from her she was planning to come to the U.S. to visit her aunt who lived in Manhattan, and we were hoping to get together for real. Then she got sick and I never heard from her again. I only learned of her death through a friend who saw my post on her Facebook page and contacted me. Hardly a day goes by that I dont think of her and wish Id had the chance to say goodbye. Happy Birthday, Djie. I hope you are at peace.
