Today my husband had the flexible bronchoscopy which is a procedure to look inside your respiratory system. It shows whether or not there is Cancer, infections, inflammation, lung diseases, only thing that showed was inflammation of the liver, everything else is good. Tomorrow he will have an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy which is used to examine the walls of your upper gastrointestinal tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach and duodenum (first part of small intestines) this procedure looks for bleeding, polyps, ulcers or infection. The procedures sound pretty much the same to me. He was fine with todays procedure, hopefully nothing bad shows up tomorrow, but if they can fix something with meds that would be great. They may take the breathing machine off tomorrow, they arent sure yet. Yesterday he was breathing on his own from morning until about 4PM and they switched him back on the machine. They said the lungs are a muscle and he and the lungs were tired from working that long, but its like building muscle, it takes time. They are pleased with everything so far, he wont be able to have another drink being the liver has some damage, I dont know if there are meds for that, I should write questions down, when I am there I dont think of them, all I think about is him laying there helpless and not really knowing what happened to him. I was doing good, until the tech came up with the machine to do the procedure, then I lost it a little where I was going to leave, but the RN said to go wait in the waiting room and when it was done she would come and get me. She asked if I felt like running, I said yes, she said he is in good hands to have faith. He was awake on and off today always trying to take the tubes out of his mouth. Tomorrow will be a better day, Ill need a Dr. after all this. Thank you all for everything.
