Today, my little Stephanie Rouch met my Isabella (from Mahoning Pound) Steph said, Man...Cass I just cant believe she was to be euthed...urgent...what a waste......I said..hey Mahoning is only one of the many pounds that kill for space...no aggression on the animal...just space...and then I see new pounds being built, (with todays intake numbers through the roof) that can house what??? 14 animals? Hell, Trumbull for the longest time only had 14 kennels themselves.. now they have some outdoor ones..that get mighty cold in the winter..and unbearably hot in the summer..like most pounds then I look at Tiger Franks place in Urbana Ohio..ya know, Barely Used Pets Rescue...and she will find herself housing 40-60 dogs...they are all communal housing by sizes...little fluffy dogs..medium doggies...and big dogs...have their own space...they run and play all day together...according to their sizes...Oh...I love her..you walk into her offices...there is no big expensive couch with matching chairs..hehe..the dogs dont care..and she is in it for the dogs...Ok, some say..well..we need monies allocated for our new adoption area ya know, for the people to sit and play with their potential adoptee...Tiger doesnt have that..and she rehomes more dogs than any other rescue I have ever known...and I been around for awhile...Tiger gets it...she knows the dogs dont care...but,,,she also knows it is more important for the animals to be well socialized..it is not their fault they are homeless...why cage them in segregation? they are pack animals? what did they ever do to warrant isolation? Yes, Tiger gets the fact that a potential adopter probably has a dog or two...maybe a cat, and they want to see how adjusted their new little fella/gal is ..and how they will fit into their new homes...How can you tell when an animal is caged 24/7 alone? even with the wonderful volunteers at all the pounds ..they try..but, it is not the same as communal living..The first pic here...is my Isabella...top of the Euth list at Mahoning pound in Youngstownn OHIO...saved...and the other pics are of Barely Used Pets..a communal lifestyle for the not rich and famous..but for the cute and homeless! From Construction of the Pole barn, to the kennels, to the play area, to the little pools set out on hot days, (all dogs are inside in their kennels at night..some with their buddies)..Doggies that all must be on the kurunda bed at once,lol...they dont get the cream of the crop all the time...you will see little Mill dogs that transform before your eyes...you will see a very crowded but efficient kennel when the Spay and Neuter team is there.. also..a pool full of puppies..but, mostly you will see...they have 1/2 or less of the space most pounds have...yet their intake is larger...but, their adoption rate is larger and faster!!! They get it!!! check it out ...and then I would like my friends input as to which facility they would like to visit...or have a homeless dog visit when he is picked up and awaiting a new home? How can Tiger do this with all the animals and yet..we see Pounds killing for space? ..It makes no sense to me whatsoever! If I were a fancy pantsy..I would have put all this in a nice folder..something that should be done...but here it is in a rough and tumble way..just like me...BUT, hey...I get it...Tiger gets it...I wish others did...
