Today my wonderful daughter, Suzanne Matthews finished her BA from N.C. State. I find it comforting that she comes out asking more questions than she did going in as a freshman. I went into college thinking that I already had all the answers. Then, wise men like Vance Davis, Earl Crow, and Charles Teague taught me the joy of the journey and its mystery. In Kahlil Gibrans The Prophet, He writes. If (the teacher) is wise, he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind. Dearest daughter, I am greatful that State did not program you with someones talking points, but taught you to ask questions so that you can truly learn for a lifetime. Suzanne, I love you more than life, and my pride in you is in who you are.
