Today officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NSMC) announced the names of the semifinalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Colorado Springs School District 11 is proud to announce that we have four semifinalists. Teresa Jaron, Olivia Stenholm, and Moriah Yeh from Coronado High School and Krystal Arnold from Doherty High School are among this group of semifinalists. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
