Today on POP WEEK Day 5: The entire genre of NuDisco Disco - TopicsExpress

Today on POP WEEK Day 5: The entire genre of NuDisco Disco music was essentially pop music for a brief period in the late 1970s. Then the United States realized they were listening to something that combined their two biggest fears: African Americans and gay people. This realization led them to fill a giant box with disco records, literally blow it up with explosives, then riot on the field in a baseball stadium during a baseball game. This isnt me trying to be funny or anything, this is something that actually happened. Although disco was banished from the top 40 charts, its subsequent evolution into Italo Disco, and then house music, continued to quietly influence the course of pop music. This is probably why NuDisco producers naturally gravitated to modern pop elements once the genre started taking off in the hipster community during the late 00s. It was basically a family reunion that was a long time coming. The increased accessibility in recent years of production software and channels for showcasing bootlegs have ensured that this reunion continues to this day. Even if Lana Del Rey releases a jungle track, someone, somewhere, will figure out how to turn it into a disco track. Then everyone will get stoked, then some big celebrity like Goldroom will remix it, then everyone will be stoked and buy more disco. Disco is the essence of life. If it werent for disco I wouldnt be here right now. Id probably be hanging out in a basement with people from the pre-renovation Chinook station era, with some girl who would be un-ironically wearing a Tupac shirt from Forever 21 while she tries to validate her internalization of early 90s gangster rap values. #popweek
