Today on September 16th, 1923 a lovely baby girl was born, named Katy Lenora Estelle Wagoner (King). She would become my mother-in-law. Lenora has been a tremendous force in my life for the last 33 years. She graciously created the most beautiful dresses for her first grandchild, my Kathleen. Her creative mind and abilities have been second to none. Mema, as Kathleen so aptly named her, has been such a warm and giving grandmother to my crew of 8. She was born as one of the greatest generation that saw the Depression and WWII firsthand. Growing up that way gave her the tools to not only survive but to do it with style. Things that most would call useless garbage, she could breathe new life into that useless garbage. Lenora grew up knowing how to plant, how to plow, how to harvest, how to can, and how to care for the livestock. Her family did not experience electricity nor indoor plumbing until after WWII. She has always been an independent woman, although she was wedded to my father-in-law, LeRoy, for 59 years until his passing. For the 12 years he was bedridden she was at his side taking care of him in their home. Like so many, I have thought of her as the Rock of Gibraltar. She will be celebrating 91 years on this green earth, what a life she has led. I love her and I am blessed to have her living with us. Happy Birthday!!!
