Today on The Covert Report with Susan Lindauer we look at one of the hard questions of this age... What to do with young Jihadis when they come home? This has become a serious question in Europe and places like Egypt and Tunisia, where a stream of young people have left home to fight in Syria or Libya. Others are simply young Islamic men of Arab descent who are traveling to the Middle East to connect to their identities, and studying conservative Islamic philosophies on the way. Not all of those young men become Jihadis, but some of them do. The problem is how does a paranoid government like Washington sort out whos who? Today on the Covert Report, my guest is Laila Lois Yaghi, whose son Ziyad caught a 30 year sentence in 2008, for allegedly participating or seeking to participate in jihadist activities in the Middle East. As a mother, Laila considers her son to be innocent. This should be a highly illuminating interview of what happens when young Arab men go off to explore the world, then try to come home.
