Today on a cycling tour a local boy shouted out Lumpia at me and a friend. Our guide, Made Lilyput, laughed. I asked what it meant. He said Spring Roll. I asked did that mean the boy was calling us spring rolls? He said yes. I asked why he thought it funny. He said because of similarity of food to our skin. I asked why is it funny. He said only for some people. I asked and he said he had heard of the word racism. I said Id prefer our guide not to laugh but to respect us and tell silly boys or whoever to go away or that its wrong to call people names based on skin colour. He didnt understand or agree. I said springrolls dont tip. Thx Sobek Adventure Professionals. Thoughts?
