Today, on a random visit to the internets, I found out that Whydahs (attractive nest-parasitic birds) were named after the Kingdom of Ouidah, modern day Benin, where I spent the first few years of my life. The type specimen of the Yellow-mantled Widowbird was described here, the name then applied to all long-tailed members of the Vidua genus. It also means that Whydah pronounced as an englishman would, is incorrect.
