Today on the Turkish newspaper “HÜRRİYET” : (Read the full article in English, on racism, politics and art) : “ MARIA MARKESINI’S SPEECH IN TURKISH, WAS ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY PRAISED MOMENTS OF THE CONCERT “ Thousands of people filled the capital city of Ankara last night, to watch the Presidential Symphony Orchestras traditional New Years Concert. “HÜRRİYET” met the soloists: Klazz brothers & Cuba percussion and Maria Markesini backstage. The traditional New Years Concert of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO), was held in Ankara Arena. Approximately 13 thousand people filled the hall completely. The guests were the Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion and Maria Markesini, joined by the orchestra conductor Rengim Gökmen. The fans could not find a free place to sit on the stands, what caused a lot of activity and tension in the stairs and balconies. The State Folk Dance Ensemble, the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the soloists provided a great night. The CSO orchestra conductor and Artistic Director of “Color” for 2014, Rengim Gökmen, noted the many workers who lost their lives, We wish that in the new year worker deaths will not happen, he said. Sense was caused by activist Maria Markesini when she said in Turkish : Dear friends, I bring you greetings from Athens. A new year of peace. Greece is wishing you peace, and good neighborliness” she said. MESSAGE FROM EUROPE TO ANKARA: Kilian Forster who lives in Dresden, talked about the anti-Islam activism that takes place the last three months in his region and stated that their performance in this concert in Ankara is carrying a protest against the nature of these developments in Europe, saying: Im speaking from my heart. We are so sorry Dresden projects this image to the world. This happens in Dresden, Saxony, not all over Germany. Only a minority movement takes part in this in Pegi. But the Saxony Leader of all Christians announced on Christmas Day that they stopped and proclaim equal rights towards all religious beliefs. We strive for the same! M. MARKESINI: TURKISH SURPRISE from NEIGHBOURS: Maria Markesini talked to us as also about the anti-Islamic activists in Dresden, Germany, and the demonstrations in the city of Pegi: “I left my country at a young age and I have witnessed the following: People living outside their own country, often show a tough stance against racism and become peace activists. But often show another face when they themselves return to their own country and become intolerant against other foreigners leaving in their own country. I think this is the deep hidden truth in truly solving the problem. That’s why it is not possible for me to participate in the talk about Pegi right now. My country has being from time to time in great tension with Turkey. But it is political, not personal. Some of my very good friends in the country I live, the Netherlands, are Turks. They helped me to prepare my Turkish speech here.” Maria Markesini had a little shopping tour in the time she spent in the capital and mentioned: “The city lighting has a reminiscence of Dubai somehow” said the jazz singer. “This city has a very ambitious sphere, but I was very surprised to see that the streets are empty very early in the evening and you can’t spot any human movement in the night hours. I thought it would be more like Athens or Barcelona, that browse until the morning”. BEST LEGACY While the demonstrations against Islam take place in Germany, Dresden, German artists here in Turkey on stage carry a message, as CSO orchestra conductor Rengim Gökmen stated at the concert: Music, this is -we think- the best legacy that can be left to the future by mankind. In a country where 99 percent are Muslims, all of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra musicians are Turkish, the German world-renowned group Klazz Brothers has shared the stage with us to give a message against racism, he said. CONCERT NOTES: - CSOs orchestra musicians, the soloist, the orchestra instruments on their way to the New Years concert got stuck in the traffic.
