Today one of my FB friends wrote to me regarding the situation in Israel that there are always two sides to the pancake meaning that there are no innocents in this conflict. I disagree! Strongly! You can easily tell who the innocents are. Just look at the facts without preconceived notions, all you need to do is to abandon that wonderful liberal idea that there are always to sides to each conflict and each side has some truth and justice in it. I survived an abusive marriage. No matter what I did it was never enough. I could never predict when my ex-husband would decide that I needed some teaching and would administer it the hard way with his fists, or what was convenient to him. I have left him 19 years ago. NO ONE can tell me that there was any right on his side. A few weeks ago a Jewish religious motorist in Israel was at fault in the accident that killed one Arab child and critically wounded another. I do not know the exact details, but I know this - he went to the police and gave himself up, telling them what happened. There was no celebrations of the death of the accident victim, no glorification of the driver. Instead sadness over the loss of life. Oh, and there Abbas protested to the UN about this heinous act of genocide. A few days after that an Arab driver DELIBERATELY run down a group of people waiting for the train in Jerusalem. He killed a 3 month old baby girl and a young woman. This was celebrated by Palestinians as a heroic deed, the driver declared a martyr for the cause, and his mother tells all how proud she is of him. The driver (killed in the attack) has been given a huge funeral. Ironically the funeral of his second victim had to be delayed not to interfere with the honors to the murderer. No one bothered UN. We know it does not care if it is Jewish blood that gets spilled. So how flat is your pancake now? And how is that zero violence premise? Politically zero violence does not work when one deals with people who are determined to kill you not even for what you are, but for what you have been born. I am not willing to meet my murderer half-way. I will kill to survive, I will kill to protect my kids and I am brave enough to recognize that one can reason with a brainwashed fanatic determined to kill all Jews. As to the history of the conflict you are wrong. There is no history of couple of hundred years of violence. Traditionally Muslims were more humane than Christians in their treatment of Jews. The real trouble started after the First WW, when English felt they needed to be grateful to the Arab allies and also when they redivided the region in accordance with their own interests. At the same time they were afraid of rising Jewish independence movement and did all they could to prevent as much Jewish immigration into Palestine. The real Palestinians are Jews, there artificially created Palestinian nation was a conglomerate of temporary useful militants, outcasts and nomadic tribes. All used by English to beat Turkey. It is not for nothing that most of their liders are born in Egypt, Syria or Jordan. Please note that most Jews were expelled from the Muslim countries of the region, yet there are no Jewish refugees. They have all been absorbed by Israel. On the other hand the number of Palestinian refugees has risen exponentially. Why? because the wealthy Arab countries do not want to absorb them, refugees do not have basic human rights - to education, to citizenship and therefore to vote (ever, even if they were born in that country), to good jobs, to run a business or to purchase land. The only country in the Middle East willing to grant them these rights is Israel. And we pay for it with the lives of our children...
