Today one of our own was honored as a nominee for the Lee County E Award. The award is the brainchild of former Lee Country Visitor and Convention Bureau Board Member Elaine McLaughlin who thought that those in our community who go above and beyond in their jobs should be recognized for it. Today was the 14th annual E Awards and our own Luke Wilcox was a nominee. Luke was nominated by the Lee County Port Authority, under the category of Good Samaritan. Luke, selflessly acted when he saw a vehicle overturn and end up, upside down in a roadside canal/ditch at the Southwest Florida International Airport. He jumped into the canal and used his snips to free the driver and assist him in exiting the vehicle (which was submerged) and get to the safety of dry land. No one really knows what would have happened to the driver of that vehicle if Luke hadn’t shown up. What we do know is that he is safe and sound because Luke did. The best part of the awards ceremony was that out of the 682 nominees there are 7 categories that can be won. Luke Wilcox was named the winner of the Good Samaritan award and brought home a beautiful trophy, a plaque and some other fine gifts for his heroic act. Please joining me in congratulating Luke on this incredible accomplishment. Great Job Luke!!!
