Today, one of the greatest women Ive ever known has finally been relieved of the fight that became her life towards the end. My mother passed peacefully in her sleep this morning. She wouldnt want us to mourn her, but Id like to celebrate what she accomplished. After sadly losing the love of her life only a relatively short time after becoming married and having myself and my brother, she chose to raise the children still living at home on her own. Thats 3 boys, throughout the 60s and 70s. And she did it on a legal secretarys salary. When you consider the times, it blows my mind what she was able to provide with such limited funds and a full time job... - We had a nice house to live in. - We lived in a clean/friendly neighborhood with lots of families with kids our age. In fact, one of my older brothers literally married the girl a few doors down. - We always had good food in the house. - We always had good clothes to wear. - We always had Christmas with gifts. - We always had family vacations in the summers. - We went to good schools. - We always had a nice family car. - She survived the 60s/70s with a house full of boys... who werent exactly angels all the time. - She was always there for us if we needed her for anything at any time. - She attended events we were part of, and helped us with them. - She ran the household, paid all bills on time. - She managed to make smart investments and save money, which allowed her to support herself to the end, despite expensive care requirements that lasted much longer than anyone anticipated. Again, all that, on a legal secretarys salary, and not coming from any wealth or having had any windfalls. Figure that out. I cant. Live strong... yeah, she did that.
