Today shortly before 4:45pm the Platte County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls about a man walking along I-29 pointing a firearm at traffic on the interstate. Members of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the area of southbound I-29 approximately 1 mile north of the 273 Highway exit (Exit 20 Tracy/Weston). William R. Elders, Jr., a 46 year old, white male from Idaho was taken into custody. A Taser was deployed on Mr. Elders prior to him being taken into custody. Mr. Elders was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. A rifle was recovered at the scene. At this time the Sheriff’s Office does not have any information indicating that Mr. Elders fired at any vehicles. The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who observed this incident prior to the arrival of law enforcement to contact the Platte County Sheriff’s Office at 816-858-3521.
