Today so many people have gas or electric fireplaces. Growing up we had the best real fireplaces with crackling wood and wonderful smell. How many of you had fireplaces? What memories so you have of them? Every winter night we had our fireplace going. My dad would come home from work and sit in front of the fireplace with his feet practically in it, lol, to warm up. I also remember he would roast chestnuts in the fire. I always wanted to like them and kept trying to like them, but I could never acquire a taste for them. I love the fireplace! So warm and cozy! It was especially nice caused dad built it! He actually built the whole living room! We used to hang our stockings from the mantel at Christmas! It was wonderful! Years later he put an insert in it to make it more efficient in heating the house. I did not like the look as much, but it was saving dad money on the heating bill!
