Today something wonderful happened. I dont think theres a short version to this story, so Im going to go ahead and tell it in full. :) When I picked Davy up from school today, he was pretty ramped up. He knew it was the start of Christmas break, and the excitement of it was just a little more than he could bear. He was bouncy, chatty, bouncy, chatty, and then just plain ornery. As a result, we did our SUPER FUN (not) I dont want to get into my car seat dance. After a few minutes of this (with me standing in the cold), I managed to persuade him to get in his seat and let me buckle him by telling him that Jackson was at school waiting for us to come get him because he wanted to be on Christmas break, too. That got his attention... though the decision to finally listen and obey was accompanied by some fairly mild, but unacceptable aggression towards me. Ah, well... I digress. We picked up Jackson and headed home. As we approached our street, Jackson said something about how he REALLY needed to go to the bathroom. Then Davy asked, Jackson, why do you REALLY need to go to the bathroom? Jackson replied, Because I wanted to wait until I got home. Davy was quiet for a moment and then said, Jackson, Im sorry I didnt listen to Mom and get into my car seat at school. That made us take a long time to come get you. After a moment of stunned silence, Jackson looked at me and whispered, What. Just. Happened? I whispered back, I think he just apologized to you. More stunned silence. ((we were kind of afraid to say anything)) And some goose bumps. And complete and total wonder at the moment. He said he was sorry. He figured out that BECAUSE OF SOMETHING HE DID, someone else suffered. And then he made it right. People. HUGE. Merry Christmas to me. #bestchristmaspresentever #teamdavy
