Today started off as any other day and then I got a call saying my grandmother had been knocked down. First I could not believe what I was hearing but tried my best to stay calm and proceeded to SFGH. She was on her way from P/Ville Health Centre where she had been taken by the person who hit her initially since she needed stitches and now needed xrays to be done. On reaching SFGH, i had to beg for a wheelchair for her since she had damaged her leg as a result of the accident and eventually had to find a wheelchair for her and proceeded to register. Met someone I knew who expedited things a bit but still had to wait what seemed like forever to see a dr. Then sent for xrays only to come back for the dr to realize she didnt do 2 essential xrays so had to go back to that dept.. Note well we are in casualty and xray dept is in the old hospital and no attendant so I am wheeling back and forth my 86 yr old grandmother between buildings. Got 2nd set of xrays and went back after 2pm. At this time apparently shift change and ended up waiting there till after 6pm. When I tried to get feedback I was told there are dealing with more pressing cases.. So an 86 yr old woman in excruciating pain who was hit head on by a vehicle was not urgent...WTH is wrong with ppl...this is how we treat the elderly? Not to mention the piss poor health care system!! I knew it was in a mess but OMG!! And how can I forget the disgusting guards in the carpark.. I just had to vent..but thank god no broken bones. A couple lacerations that needed stitches, some swelling and lots of pain.
