Today, the 28th November, 2014, marks my 1st anniversary in the Nigerian Bar. Its been crazy cool being a lawyer in Nigeria. With the year under review, Ive resigned from two law firms(almost leaving the third now), assisted indigent litigants/ordinary folks with their legal challenges, made a buck here and there from law practice, of course, held my head up higher in society, been ass-whipped and tongue-lashed by judges in courts all around Nigeria, outsmarted in court by some sharp lawyers, dumbfounded by other lawyers erudition, etc. I really have not seen much, but the little Ive seen has been most exhilarating- with lows and highs. It is my prayer that even as we get along in this Bar, may we, like fine wine, get better with age. May our emergence in this legal arena bring changes (not the APC kind, though) to the legal profession and practice. May we help to raise the standard of the Bar (some of you should stop taking cheap beer and start doing some real wine. Thats a way of raising the Bar). Indeed, we are most grateful to God for having brought us this far. We look forward to brighter and richer days ahead. Years of robust legal practice. Years of impact in our society using the instrument of the law. Years of big briefs and superflous billings. Years of popping champagne and clicking wine glasses.
