Today the Chancellor visited Thornton. He came to open the new production facility at Victrex PLC. Before that he met with Peter Gibson, leader of Wyre Council, and several local business leaders. The Chancellor was interested to hear about the barriers to growth, especially concerning infrastructure. Many local businesses explained how the congestion on the A585 added to their costs. The Chancellor took these points on board. I have long campaigned for a fix to the A585 and this was a great opportunity to reinforce this message. After opening the new factory we went to see the work being undertaken by the Highways Agency on the A585 at the junction of Bourne Way. Here Cllr Andrea Kay met with the Chancellor and explained how the finished improvements would make a difference in the future. I think the Chancellor was left in no doubt that we have many great companies and businesses on Hillhouse, all wanting to grow, to employ more people and add to our GDP, but that the Government has to take some action in improving the infrastructure.
