Today the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration & Laxmibai Kelkar SevaTrust organized a “Smriti Sabha” to commemorate 103rd Punya Tithi of Sister Nivedita which was attended by His Excellency, Shri. Keshari Nath Tripathiji, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Shri.S.S.Ahluwalia,Hon’ble Member of Parliament,Darjeeling, Sushree Shantakka ji, Mukhya Margdarshika, Laxmibai Kelkar Seva Trust and Swami Nitya Satya Nanda Maharaj,Secretary,Rama Krishna Mission,Darjeeling. I am Sharing some photos and my message for this program. Darjeeling was brought into prominence by Sister Nivedita in the beginning of the 20th Century as she breathed her last in Darjeeling on 13th October 1911. News of her death spread all over immediately and prominent personalities from Calcutta and other parts of the country arrived at Roy Villa, Darjeeling to pay their last homage to the departed soul. Thousands of local people joined her funeral procession and even today in Roy Villa it states, Here reposes Sister Nivedita who gave her all to India. Sister Nivedita was a disciple of Swami Vivekananda and her contribution to the patriotism is immeasurable. She was a person of intense spirituality, strength of mind and intellectual power. She was given the name of Nivedita as one dedicated to God. She became a teacher to downtrodden and deprived children and their mothers. She also worked tirelessly for the amelioration of the plight of Indian women. She sought to improve womens education, especially for Hindu widows who were often condemned to a life of poverty. During the outbreak of plague epidemic in Calcutta in 1899, Sister Nivedita plunged into action in order to save the city . She started sweeping the streets and cleaning the drains and motivated youths to render voluntary service to prevent further outbreak of the plague. This year on 28th October which happens to be her Birth Anniversary, The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration salutes Sister Nivedita by observing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, clarion call made by Honble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. The GTA including all its municipalities and the blocks will dedicate 2 hours a week throughout the year for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. I along with our Honble Member of Parliament, Shri S.S. Ahluwalia will be leading the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan on the 28th October with all our Elected Members, Block officials, GTA Officials and staffs. I would appeal to all the Principals/Headmasters of the various Colleges and Schools to organize a programme of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in their respective colleges and schools and to extend the same to the adjacent localities/neighbourhoods. I also request all NGOs, Social Organizations and youths to participate in this programme and make it a grand success . I am happy to announce that Darjeeling would be one of the pioneer district to initiate the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the State. सन्देश हिमालयको काखमा रहेको दार्जीलिङमा सिस्टर निवेदिताले १३ अक्टोबर १९११ सालमा आफ्नो अन्तिम श्वास लिएकी थिइन्। बीसौं शताब्दीको पहिलो पहरतिर उनको निधन भएपछि दार्जीलिङको नामलाई अझै प्रकाशमान बनायो। कलकतालगायत देशका विभिन्न प्रान्तहरूबाट प्रख्यात व्यक्तिहरू सिस्टर निवेदितालाई श्रद्धा-सुमन दार्जीलिङस्थित रोयभिल्ला आइपुगेका थिए। हजारौं संख्यामा श्रद्धालुहरू सिस्टर निवेदिताको अन्तिम यात्रामासहभागी बनेका थिए। अहिले पनि महान आत्मा उनको प्रिय स्थल दार्जीलिङ पहा़मा विश्रामरत् छ र उनको स्मारक चिमा पनि लेखिएको छ, निवेदिता जसले भारतवर्षलाई सबैथोक दिइन्, उनको आत्मा यहाँ विश्रामरत् छन्। सिस्टर निवेदिता स्वामी विवेकानन्दका शिष्या थिइन् जसको राष्ट्रिय चेतनाको योगदान अमूल्य छ। उनी अध्यात्म ज्ञान अनि सफलताकी धनी थिइन्। भगवानप्रति उत्सर्गित अर्थमा उनलाई निवेदिता नाम दिइयो। उनी बालबालिकालगायत माताहरूका पनि शिक्षिका थिइन्। सारा देशमा ख़ेरी परेको समय अथवा हैजा फैलिएको समय अत्यन्त मानविक अनि समर्पित बनी पी़ितहरूको सेवामा निस्वार्थरूपले लागिपरेकी थिइन्। नारी शिक्षा अनि नारी उत्थानको निम्ति पनि उनले सराहनीय कार्य गरिन्। उत्सर्गको एउटा प्रतीकको नाउँ हो निवेदिता। दरिद्र अनि पी़ित शिशुहरू अनि उनीहरूको आमाहरूको उत्थानको निम्ति उनले पुर्याएको योगदान अतुलनीय अनि प्रशंसनीय छ। १८९९-सालमा कलकतामा हैजा फैलिएको समय उनले मानिसहरूको सेवामा आफूलाई समर्पित गरिन्। आफैले स़कमा झाु लगाइन् अनि फोहोर सफा गर्न आफै स़कमा ओर्लिन्। उनको उक्त कार्यलाई देखेर युवा अनि आम मानिसहरू पनि उनको कार्यले प्रेरित भएर सफाई अभियानमा आर्लिएका थिए। आगामी २८ अक्टोबर, जुन दिन सेवाको प्रतीक सिस्टर निवेदिताको जन्म दिवस पर्दछ। गोर्खाल्याण् क्षेत्रीय प्रशासन उनको सेवा भावनालाई नमन गर्दै स्वच्छ भारत अभियानको शुरूआत गर्नेछौं। माननीय प्रधानमन्त्री नरेन्द्र मोदीजीको सपनलाई साकार पार्न गोर्खाल्याण् क्षेत्रीय प्रशासन, पहा़को सबै नगरपालिका अनि खण् विकासक्षेत्रहरूमा वर्षभरि नै साताको २ घण्टा समय स्वच्छ भारत अभियानलाई प्रदान गर्नेछौं। २८ अक्टोबरको दिन म स्वयं अनि माननीय सांसद एसएस अहलुवालियाले यस सफाई अभियानको अगुवाई गर्नेछौं। यसबाहेक हाम्रा सबै विधायकगण, जीटीए सभासदगण, कर्मचारीगण, नगरपाल, उप-नगरपाल अनि नगरपालिका सदस्यगण आ-आफ्नो र्वा अनि क्षेत्रहरूमा यस कार्यलाई अघि बाउने छन्। पहा़का सबै महाविद्यालय अनि विद्यालयका प्राचार्य, प्रधानअध्यापक अनि शिक्षक-शिक्षिकाहरूलाई आ-आफ्नो महाविद्यालय, विद्यालयलगायत नजीकका क्षेत्रहरूमा उक्त अभियान सम्पन्न गरिदिने आान गर्दछु। यसबाहेक विभिन्न्न गैर-सरकारी संस्थान, सामाजिक संघ-संस्थाहरू अनि युवावर्गलाई पनि उक्त अभियानलाई सफल बनाइदिने अपील गर्दछु। पश्चिम बंगाल राज्यभरिमा स्वच्छ भारत अभियान शुरू गर्ने दार्जीलिङ पहिलो जिल्ला बन्न गइरहेको कुरा पनि म यहाँबाट सहर्ष सबैलाई जनाउन चाहन्छु।
