Today the Heritage Page celebrates the 86th Wedding Anniversary of Charles David Preston, Jr. & Addie Elizabeth Duckworth. They were joined together on this day in 1928 by DB Groves, the Pastor of Barton United Methodist Church. Known to all as Charley, he was the 5th child of Charles David Ty Preston & Amy Ellen Metz of Barton, Maryland. His new bride, who was also known to all as Lizzie, was the daughter of Charles & Nellie Duckworth, also of Barton. After their vows, Charley & Lizzie rented a home in Dogwood Flats near Barton where he earned a living in the local coalmines to support his new family which had increased by one with the birth of daughter Nellie in 1931. In 1934/35 they packed up their little family and moved to Washington, DC where he pursued a career in the roofing trade alongside his brother Bill and brother-in-law Raymond Duckworth. There they rented a place in the Capital City and then later moved to Arlington, Virginia into the home of Lizzies mother and two of her daughters. She too had also left her ancestral home of Western Maryland after the death of Lizzies father. Their little family grew once more in 1939 with the birth of their son Jimmie Ray. Charleys hard work in the roofing trade paid off with the purchase of a home of their own a few years later in Arlington and continued when they later built their dream home just outside Front Royal, Virginia. Happy Anniversay Uncle Charley & Aunt Lizzie!!
