Today the Prime Minister tabled a motion in the House of Commons - TopicsExpress

Today the Prime Minister tabled a motion in the House of Commons stating that Canada will join its allies in conducting air strikes against Islamic State militants for up to six months but will not deploy ground troops in combat operations. The strikes will be limited to Iraq, but the door is left open for Syria. The motion will be debated on Monday. I was proud that Tom Mulcair stood in the House to say that Canada’s first contribution should be to use every diplomatic, humanitarian and financial resource at our disposal to respond to the overwhelming human tragedy unfolding on the ground and strengthen political institutions in both those countries. I agree that the tragedy in Iraq and Syria will not end with another Western-led war in that region - it will end by helping the people of Iraq and Syria to build the political, institutional and security capabilities they need to oppose these threats themselves.
