Today, the Sermsuk Paiboon Co. Ltd. Informed the Sri Tia Community Leader that they would be arriving at 10:00 a.m. to demarcate lands. Villagers quickly mobilized and were waiting when the company representatives and security forces arrived at 11:00 a.m. The group that arrived included: 2 company representatives, 7 soldiers, 5 police, a government land surveyor, and a Senior District Official. They planned to demarcate 100 rai (about 16 Ha) of land, but the villagers refused to allow them access to their lands. Sri Tia Village representatives explained that the current government (the NCPO) are in the process of resolving their land problems. The Sub-district Chief supported the villagers’ claims and added that these lands were distributed under the Agricultural Land Reform Program. However, the company showed land documents to support their claims (these land titles were obtained through corruption, according to the Sri Tia Villagers). After the villagers remained steadfast in their stance, the company officials agreed to wait until the Central government solved this land dispute according to their agreement with the NCPO.
