Today, the UNOPS team in Afghanistan went to Balkh Province to see how rural women are progressing with their new dairy business. They were pleasantly surprised to discover that the four cows they started with has doubled into eight! In this project, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and supported by UNOPS, women sell milk, cream, cheese and yoghurt. This initiative forms part of a broader project to better connect remote communities in four provinces to markets and essential services such as health clinics and schools.
