Today the birds went to 95km, the last toss prior to race - TopicsExpress

Today the birds went to 95km, the last toss prior to race one. Conditions at the big orange, lockyer valley was overcast with rays of sunshine coming through, but no signs of rain, and nothing visible on the satelite charts. The birds headed east about one kilometre before circling, slowly lifting to altitude, and heading north then south, then north again. It took about 9 minutes before the birds lined out and raced into the distance away from me. Some 10 to 15 minutes down the road i saw the birds on the journey home heading through the Minden Marburg ranges circling in four distinct groups. One group headed north with the other 3 groups heading south and out of site. On returning home birds were arriving, but many were already in. The first birds timed in, in 74 minutes, with 500 in within 10 minutes. After feeding, only 11 birds were still missing, and despite light rain setting in from 1pm onwards, 7 arrrived throughout the afternoon, leaving just 4 birds missing tonight.
