Today, the sinahi is worn by so many people, some wear it as a symbol of our culture, our ancient ways, and as a showing of Chamoru pride. Others wear it as a fashion statement or as a souvenir. But before the sinahi was widely re-accepted as body ornamentation, it was revived by indigenous artists, academics, and activists and was at times seen as an image of the radicals on Guam. Heres a short film made by some friends for the University of Guams Spring 2012 Modern Pacific History course. Come on down to the University of Guam tomorrow for the continuation of the Chamorro Studies Program lecture series. Tomorrows lecture focuses on indigenous activism on Guam.
