Today the so-called ordinary Zimbabwean citizen should celebrate his own heroics. While we still pay tribute to our Iiberation war heroes, our current circumstances have brought up a new crop of heroes. Those who lost their life-time savings during Gonos mad era and played witness to a record inflation rate hitting the trillions against one digit salary increment rates. And yet still somehow managed to keep their families fed and going. Those civil servants who have gone for months without salaries and yet still wakes up everyday going to work - hoping for the best to come one day. They are not only working for their families, but also sacrificing for our battered country. Those families displaced and rendered homeless by the ill-fated operation Murambatsvina. They are still struggling to make ends meet, but have surely survived the worst and passed the test of time and real perseverance. Those children who have made going to school on empty stomach look normal and acceptable. Still managing to keep high level of concentration and coming out with such good results that Zimbabwe has remained highly rated on the educational front. Those sons and daughters who have been pushed to the diaspora - so far away from their homes and families. Some have gone for so many years without seeing their parents, spouses and children. Some carry the responsibility of supporting very big extended families by themselves such that their own progress is just but a dream. Yes I salute you all resilient people of Zimbabwe. These adversities that we have so well handled and endured are however not our life-time portion. We are not a cursed nation. Time has come that we have to look in the mirror and ask ourselves why we have for so long accepted the abnormal conditions as belonging to us. If we have excelled in managing crisis, why cant we excel in joining hands and bringing progress to ourselves? Enough is the word. Its not adequate to keep waiting and hoping for the best. Where we end, God takes over! But where have we ended? Have we even started? Happy Heroes Holidays!!!
