Today the unions met with the representatives from the Emergency - TopicsExpress

Today the unions met with the representatives from the Emergency Managers office to discuss pensions. There were rather intense discussions over confidentiality issues, which almost derailed the meeting. Actual Numbers and amounts were not shared, just a discussion to meet again. It is a pretty good guess that the pensions will be frozen in the immediate future. Health care will be discussed at a meeting tomorrow. The City of Detroit is insolvent and there is a limited pool of money available to pay the creditors. The pension funds and employees are unsecured creditors. The same Wallstreet Bankers that came to Detroit to meet with Kevin Orr today are unsecured creditors as well. Essentially, they have the same claim and stake in the City of Detroit as YOU the employee. You do not deserve to get any additional consideration. Taxpayers should not have to pay for you 20 years later. This is business. It is not surprising that the bankers did not want to tour Detroit and were concerned for their safety and their faces being identified. Why should they tour Detroit? It is business. The Bankers were complaining about a $15.00 box lunch. Really, pretty much sums up what these guys are all about. It is sad that the men and women who serve the City of Detroit are lumped into the same "unsecured creditor" group. The men and women of public safety are in the streets everyday. Instead of catching a flight out of town after the meeting; I jumped back on an ambulance and went back to work in the street. EMS, Police and FIre, we show up to work everyday with pay cuts and benefit increases that have devastated our family budgets. The suffering of our members and their families is great, but yet we are no different than the banker complaining over a $15 lunch. America better take a close look at Michigan and Detroit. The Constitution and voters rights are under siege. There will not be American Cities with elected officials, just corporations and attorneys running the cities. As for the fate of the corrupt politicians and individuals that have mismanaged and delivered the working man to this fate......throw away the key. Detroit EMS does not have accucheck strip for months, but Jones Day attorneys rack up 1.4 million in fees over a 6 week period. Hmmmmm? Big business really does mean more than human life. - Barney
