Today the whole world is looking at the US. What will the US do or NOT do ? Is the response from the west to be: thats YOUR problem, not mine ? Energy right now gives Putin tremendous clout over smaller, weaker, countries. Anyone remember Soviet Communism ? Is somebody not cooperating ? Just shut their natural gas off until they pay you the higher rates you assigned last summer. If they resist you, just turn everything off ! Think I am kidding ? Putin HAS ALREADY DONE THIS. International Friendships are defined among other things: by whom you stick with when times are tough. THAT should define WHO we are as Americans. This is no time to abandon Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Romainia, Ukraine, England, France, Italy, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, The Philippines, and others. Even recent Egypt qualifies to a certain degree. All these and many others represent longtime friendships with the US. Right now in the Spratlys, Philippinos physically occupy one or more of the Spratly Islands. They occupy and exist on that island as beggers in that tiny space surrounded by at least three Chinese warships who want what they rightfully claim. There are things we could do INDIRECTLY to help the Filipinos and there are thing the US should do to stand in solidarity with those in Ukraine.
