Today the world lost a trailblazer and I lost a dear and personal friend. I am also very angry that some folks posted the news of Chebis passing before his own family decided to. Whoever was responsible for the initial leak should be ashamed that they did not respect the wishes of his family to keep it quiet until they saw fit to make the announcement. That being said, the saddest thing for me is that he left me 2 messages earlier this week and I did not have a chance to call him back. The guilt is unimaginable. I met Chebi at a swanky party in Hollywood before he even made his first album in the 90s, and we bonded over our mutual love for world and electronic music. No doubt his albums enriched all our lives. I was fortunate to consider him family. He stayed in my house often when I lived in LA. We loved going dancing together and more than anything spent so many hours just laughing, eating, and sometimes crying in recent times. He was working on a new album this year and I was going to be a part of it. I guess the hardest part of life is knowing that the road we are on will eventually reach its end, but the timing will always be unknown to us. I dont have any new agey anecdotes to share and I frankly get annoyed reading them from people who have never lost someone close to them, because losing someone close to us is really tragic and leaves us with the sense that part of us has died as well because so much remains unfinished. I am truly going to miss my dear friend.....
