Today theres new data out showing that student loan debt grew $31b in the last 3 months alone to over $1.1 trillion: bzfd.it/1sJm3Z9. In New York, graduates are burdened with over $60 billion in federal student loan debt, averaging $27k per graduate. This is unacceptable. These skyrocketing levels of student loan debt are hurting our economy and preventing our young people from investing in their futures. Im proud to be an original co-sponsor of the #BankOnStudents Emergency Loan Refinancing Act, which would allow student borrowers to refinance their debt at a low interest rate, just as homeowners and businesses are able to do.
