Today, thirteen members of the SCFD #9 Technical Rescue Team (TRT) participated in semi-annual confined space rescue training at Avista Jack Stewart Training Center. The training involves theoretical and practical training on how to negotiate entry and rescue operations in tight spaces. Added to the confining space are elements such as smoke or other noxious substances, not to mention low light environments. Teamwork is essential when it comes to properly conducting a safe entry or rescue in a confined space. During the training session, TRT personnel are assigned a specific job and radio communications are integral to relaying information from within the space to the scene commander making a plan to execute the required response. Challenges associated with confined space rescue are some of the many disciplines and rescue types the members of the TRT are trained to mitigate. Members of the TRT participate in monthly training, including trench rescue, ice rescue, high-angle rope rescue, and structure-collapse rescue.
