Today was a beautiful day to be ahorseback in Montana. Even if I was confined to the indoor, as the entire out doors is either glare ice, mud or mud puddle. Due to political engagements and a physical injury, it seems like FOREVER since Ive been astride. As I swung my leg across my horses back and lit light in the saddle, I immediately noticed how tight my back was and how shallow my breathing. Uhoh! Thats not good. At best, its a terrible interruption of progress. At the worst, it could be enough to get me dumped from this feely, fleet footed powerhouse. As I began to ride and put my mount though the warm up program and my seven dance steps, my hands and legs found the old familiar rhythm which has been conditioned into my body from a lifetime in the saddle. I felt my back relax, and as if by special prescription prescribed by a wise physician, my breathing deepened, the fog lifted, my mind cleared, the caustic energy drained from my body. In less than 15 minutes, I found my troubled soul once again healed by my four legged therapist, and back in very familiar territory....the communication zone as I call it...where finite, sensitive communication becomes a beautiful dance. Thank you Lord for your masterful creation called The Horse- Here is beauty without vanity, friendship without envy, majesty without conceit, a willing servant, yet no slave.
