Today was a day to tour Yellowstone Park. It was not enough but a week would not be enough either. Ideally I would be stopping somewhere to hike off the beaten path. Driving the old car through the park has enabled us to talk to people we would not have otherwise met. We met a couple from Germany and a family from Italy. Fred knew a few words of German and I knew a few of Italian. But could not seem to remember them. We essentially drove a loop on the northern part of the park. There is so much scenery and it is ever changing. From mountains, to meadows, to canyons, it is hard to watch the road so I made a lot of stops. I got out and took pictures and Fred would usually wait but sometimes get out. We had a nice lunch stop in Roosevelt Lodge after which we encountered some Bison crossing the road. The highlight of the trip today was venturing up Chittenden Road getting very close to the top of Mount Washburn at 10243 feet. It was a windy, gravel road that had Fred on edge. Mainly because he was sitting on the side closest to the edge. We went up in first gear and down in first gear. We were clearly above the snow line. You may like the pics but I feel the fell short. It was simply spectacular. After our descent we finished the rest of the loop taking some more pictures and a few stops. There was one traffic jam for a mountain goat that we could not even see. The group was probably as split up as they could get today. We did see a few people but most were on their own at their own pace. John Mason is staying with us and has not failed to disappoint. While Fred and I were getting some laundry he locked himself out of the room. He had the clerk let him in but it was the wrong room and the guest was still sleeping. I figured out what John and I have in common and that is we do not embarrass easily. Fred and I returned at 4 and we got an early supper for the first time in a while. About half of us were there while the other csme in about an hour later. Some may have still been sightseeing or just resting. It has been 3 weeks on the road and I am seeing the end. We will travel through the park tomorrow on our way to Cody WY and a final stop in Worland WY. Pics on the tour page.
