Today was a good day for the campaign, the motion couldnt be heard - TopicsExpress

Today was a good day for the campaign, the motion couldnt be heard because 3 days notice is required in advance of a vote, however, they will convene again on Saturday at 11am to hear the motion. The parties appear to be in disarray with many FF Councillors, including Andrew McGuinness, Joe Malone. Pat McKee and Pat Fitzpatrick all calling for a review!!! Mary Hilda Kavanagh, FG Whip appears to now think that a review is required also. It seems that the councillors have been influenced a by a number of factors: 1. The texts and emails you have all been sending!!! (this were mentioned many times - so pls keep them up but remember to keep them CLEAN). 2. The PROTESTS that you have all been holding down at the construction site! - this is a PR nightmare for the Council so pls keep turning up! 3. The fantastic and persuasive PRESENTATIONS by the CKKR group yesterday! 4. The implications of the northern section of the ring road being given permission by An Bord Pleannala (although clearly this should have been anticipated in advance). 4. Finally, the Councils proposal in recent days to retain the houses in Vicar St for a period of 5 years (until the northern section of the RR is completed) and the diversion of the road directly into the Diageo site. This in particular has caused confusion with the councillors as they (and us) no longer know where the road is to start, where it will end, and what its purpose is exactly. So well done us but the FIGHT IS FAR FROM OVER. The terms of reference for the review on Saturday MUST INCLUDE THAT THE WORK ON SITE BE STOPPED IF THE MOTION IS PASSED, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE REVIEW IS COMPLETE!!! Otherwise whats the point in the review? The implications of the abandonment of the road would mean that the €2.5m spent on the road in the last 35 years would be gone - however, much of this money has been spent on purchasing land which the Council would still own. In any event, we feel that theres no point in throwing good money after bad - spending an additional €10.7 (at least) to finish a road that nobody wants just because its been started is madness. Keep up the good work folks and keep the pressure on your councillors - THE PASSING OF THE MOTION TO HOLD A REVIEW OF THE CAS SHOULD MEAN THAT ALL WORK STOPS ON SITE UNTIL THE REVIEW IS COMPLETE!!!
