Today was a very calm day for Colton. He got to snuggle with mom - TopicsExpress

Today was a very calm day for Colton. He got to snuggle with mom for a bit, a mini bath with Johnson and Johnson (which - if you know is pretty exciting since we normally use CHG wipes. They are used to eliminate infection which is nice except they make Colton sticky.) We also met with Dr. Ohye - the surgeon - and he said he is optimistic for surgery tomorrow! He plans to go in and replace the conduit and place a stent in the left artery. His plan is for surgery to take 4 hours from when he actually gets through the chest wall - however because he has already had 2 open heart surgeries it will be tough to get through and will take some time. Otherwise he says it is straight forward. He informed us it will take about 2 weeks recovery - so HOME FOR CHRISTMAS! (If all goes right!) We did tell him that if we werent home for Christmas he would be hosting and he said, Absolutely! So, Im feeling good about this! :) Six weeks ago when we had the cath they were only able to do angioplasty on the arteries. They werent able to place stents, which is what they were able to do Tuesday with the right artery. We also learned that the conduit actually sits on part of the right artery so that is the reason that it narrows at parts because the conduit is heavy in comparison with the artery. We were able to do the trach change on our own. We arent really able to do much around here because they want their nurses to do it - however it was nice for us to do the change together. We did great - Colton did great and it was easy peasy! One step closer when we get home (South Dakota) to get home! We are off to dinner and then bed so we are ready for tomorrow! Its going to be a long day!
