Today was a weird day, and Ive heard things from Manaus to São Paulo that made me really sad. What makes me sadder is to know that many people wont understand why... I dont really have a religion. When someone asks me what I am, I have to take a minute to think what to reply. But in truth, I have no religion. Like my folks say, Ill most likely only convert to a religion to get married. Now, heres the thing. I said I have no RELIGION. I never said I dont have FAITH. I think its very important to draw a line between these. I think religions are beautiful. I took my time to do research about all of them, and all of them fascinates me. In fact, the reason why I have no religion is because I like them all so much I cannot pick. I was born to a Catholic family who got away from the religion to dedicate their time to Kardecism. But I was always the different one. I learned all I could from my parents about Catholicism. When I was about 8 years old though, my fascination for diversity flourished. For some reason I got interested in Islam. I even wrapped scarfs on my head to imitate a hijab and somehow InshaAllah was my most used expression. Some time later I was very much into Orthodoxy. I got the habit to cross myself the way they do and I learned their ceremonies. And most who know me now see how much Hinduism and Buddhism simply amaze me. I think I had a time where I was interested in Judaism as well, and I liked to listen to their songs and learn their rituals. And those are only to name a few. That said, I have a modest knowledge about each one of them. But from what I know, there is one huge similarity between them all: they all preach about love. They believe in a higher force, and that the secret to a good life is love. The methodologies are different, but the higher lesson is the same:become a better person through love. How can people miss this? The world is huge. How can one expect it to be uniform? The religious diversity is the cultural proof of human intelligences evolution. If there is anything that saddens me is to hear someone claiming their religion is the only right one among all the others. Now what makes me cringe is false modesty and piety. The speech We should respect all religions BUT we know ours is the right path and one day everyone will see for themselves. Dont people realise how this kind of thought inspired great atrocities throughout History? That to this day, it still does? I believe in a higher force. I call it God for convention since I grew up to this term, but I easily see it as Allah, Buddha and every other divine being. Because to me, they are different names only. Their religion preach tolerance and love. Follow your religion, if you have one, if it suits you. But dont diminish others just because they dont fit in yours. Respect those who also dont have one. The important thing to do is to practice love and do good. I will keep loving religions and appreciating their great power without fitting in any in particular until I get married, because it suits ME.
