Today was an extremely bittersweet day. We found ourselves among thousands and thousands of dolphins, both Bottlenose and Spotted... but we also saw the saddest thing EVER. A Bottlenose mom pushing and pulling her dead baby around. She had it on her dorsal fin, she pushed it around with her nose, she let if float... but there was no way she was going to leave it. It was extremely hard for me to focus to photo and video the scene, but I knew for both scientific and spiritual reasons, I needed to hold it together and collect the visual data. As soon as I put the camera down, I burst into tears. The mothers pain and suffering was obvious and I promised her that her baby will not die in vain... that I will use these photos and video to show the compassion and feelings that dolphins have and how very, very, very wrong it is to have them in captivity and to kill them. They feel. They suffer. They mourn. And they deserve to live wild and free. I will post more photos and video soon. It is time for a quiet ceremony for this mom and baby and I ask you to PLEASE, PLEASE send the Mom LOVE and HEALING thoughts. THANK YOU!
