Today was better!! So over the past week several times justin has had small windows in which its obvious hes alert and aware in that moment. These are very brief moments. 30 to 60 seconds. The doctors and therapists were all saying it looks like hes ready for rehab. At the meeting yesterday suddenly they were talking about discharging him home or to a long term post acute facility. This was a complete about face. It didnt make sense based on what we were hearing just a day or two before and we were dumbstruck. What happened?!? Today I go in with a plan for getting answers and Im greeted with smiles congrats. We just heard the news. News? What news? Going home right now isnt good news. Our house isnt a place he can come home too. And then the social worker comes in and tells me the insurance finally approved him going to rehab services again. They had originally denied it and things were going on in the background without us knowing. We received a denial but didnt know it meant he could possibly be discharged quickly. The rehab administrator came by and we talked as well. Right now everything is a go and as of today hes on rehab again. Not just on the rehab floor but on actual rehab. Sweetly, she told me that she prays every day for justin. This woman Ive never met, like many of you, prays daily for my boy. I took a video the other day of justin. A video I may one day share...that shows one of these brief windows of awareness, alertness...and showed it to her. She instantly started crying and said thats what shes been praying for. đ In the video he is awake, eyes open, but staring into space...and hes asked if something is OK...justin is that ok? Is that ok justin? Can you say yes? And about 5 seconds later his expression changes and he lifts his head and looks around, he blinks differently, finds me and moves his mouth. No sounds but you can completely see hes trying and is aware. You can also see the moment he is back unaware and staring into space. If he can have 20 or 30 seconds of awareness he can have more!! Never doubt our prayers are slowly being answered. Its going to take a LOT of time for him to become more aware but he CAN do it. And when we pray for a miracle, remember, hes alive...and that is already a miracle. Everything else is God smiling down on him.
