Today was my babys sixth birthday party. I had an absolutely magical day! I still stressed out... got anxious... nervous... self-conscious! I worry that the kids arent enjoying themselves... That the parents wont like me... That someone will hurt themselves... And then theres the noise! Oh my goodness these venues are soooooo noisy!!! :o But, thankfully I usually have my partner Rob by my side. Rob knows me well... very well. At our boys special events, Rob takes a backseat. Not my asking, but he believes that it is an occasion for Kevin (the boys Dad) and I to unite together in celebrating our sons. But Rob is always watching to make sure I dont freak out! Lol. Often its something other people wont notice, but he knows Im not coping, and steps in to eliminate the stress. I appreciate this very much. What I also appreciate is how absolutely amazing the Mums and Dads are that attend these parties. I swear my sons choose their friends based on how lovely their parents are!!! ;) So so beautiful, understanding, non- judgemental and kind. And once I start discussing my anxiety at such events, I am ALWAYS met with complete empathy and even often hear others say Yes, I feel the same way! Who would have thought??? So, now I realise that I dont have to pretend I am Mother of the Year... that I have everything under control! I do not have to host the best party of the decade... If something goes wrong, I now know that I can laugh it off with the guests Mums and Dads! Today was a wonderful day, spent meeting some lovely new people, and continuing to get to know others I have met before. Today I feel so blessed. I am grateful.
