Today was one of those days that started out good, went south but then so far is ending up OK. When I woke up this morning, Princess was already awake. I told her that after her MLP show finished that she needed to get ready for church. We decided as a family last night to attend big church AKA worship service. Our neighbor girl was going to help lead worship. This is a big deal as we attend a large church. Princess did as was asked except for putting on her shoes. She even found a fresh baked muffin and a banana to eat while I was taking my shower. Good stuff right? Then things went poorly. Unbeknownst to me she brought her iPad into the bathroom. I asked her to hurry things along because wed be leaving after my knight was done getting ready. Apparently she did not hear me. (At least thats what she told me later.) I finally had to go get said iPad so that Princess could finish brushing her teeth and hair. Shortly after this we piled into the royal carriage with all of Princess items to make the church service an enjoyable experience for everyone. There was only one problem. My knight did not realize that we were going to the main sanctuary. When we arrived at church, he attempted to enter a smaller room where another pastor was preaching. Oops! The whole time I am freaking out inside but I am trying to keep a calm exterior. I knew that church had already started and that we would not be able to find a place to sit up front. Even though Princess finds the music too loud, she wants to be up close where the action is. Princess feels very comfortable at our church so she started walking down the dark aisle looking for a seat. I had to call her back so we could find seats as a family. Mind you everyone is singing and on their feet. We found a seat about midway on the right but not where Princess could see. She tried everything she could but nothing was working. She even put on her blingy headphones. I looked over and could see that she was shutting down. I told my knight I was taking her outside to figure it out. I gathered Princess and all of her stuff but left my purse with my husband because I figured I be back in a few minutes. That was a mistake. After talking to Princess, it soon became clear that we would not be going back inside. She wanted something that just was not possible. I did tell her that she should have been quicker in the bathroom at home and that the clock doesnt stop just for her. Maybe I should have told her that another time because that statement only made things worse. I asked her if she wanted to go to Sunday School or just go home. She said she wanted to go to Sunday School. I could not take her there because we have a system where she goes to the disabilities ministry classroom to meet her aide. Who was out of town visiting family. When we arrived at the classroom, the director came out to talk to Princess and calm her down. They chatted about American Girls since she knows a thing or two about them. It was the perfect distraction. Once Princess was calm again, the director asked her if she still wanted to go to Sunday School. She said she did, so the director had her intern walk her over to her 5th grade class and stay with her so that shed have that 1:1 support that she needed. I heard later that things went well. Yay! As for me, I had my phone in my pocket so I texted my husband to tell him where I was and to bring my purse with him after service. Wed agreed that it would be too disruptive for me to reenter the sanctuary after so much time had passed. I was thankful for technology and wonderful understanding people. I learned that even though I plan out the details sometimes things still go awry. Right now Princess is just relaxing before her big day back at school tomorrow. Wish us luck!
