Today was our best day on the island. First we drove out to Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse and hiked up to the lighthouse, and then on to the top of the summit. It was an absolutely beautiful drive and hike. We had a picnic lunch at the top and then hiked about halfway back down and turned off the trail and went straight down a lava rock cliff to an area known as Dragons Nostrils. We picked the perfect day to do this as the waves were crazy which lead to the nostrils really firing off every minute or so. It was an amazing show of natures force. Ill upload some video of it in just a little bit. There were natural pools there which we swam in. We both decided that up to this point it is the coolest place we have ever been on the planet. On the way down the cliff we met up with two girls, Paige and Brianna. Paige was walking down lava rock with no shoes on. Brianna had busted her flip flops and Paige let her wear hers. We let her know we had some water shoes she could wear. She was very appreciative. Karma is a beautiful thing sometimes because they had snorkel gear so we were able to use it in the pools and see all sorts of fish and sea urchins. Paiges boyfriend is stationed in Hawaii and Brianna was out visting her friend. Pretty good life. She told us about another hike right off of the main trail that took you down to Peles Chair. Its a huge rock formation that looks like a chair. There is a beach and another natural tide pool for swimming. We hiked out of Dragons Nostrils with them and followed them to Peles Chair. Once again we were able to use their snorkel gear and see beautiful fish. We hiked back out and drove over to Tantalus Dr. which is an amazing road that rises out of Waikiki and up into the mountains. We stopped at a State Park that has just an unbelievable view of all of Honolulu. We are back at the condo, sunburnt and so excited about the amazing day that we had. I grilled up some steaks and asparagus and we are gonna watch last nights Walking Dead. There arent going to be many days that end up being as great as this one was. Enjoy the pics. :)
